Killing the Stoner Stigma

Alright all you shy smokers/dabbers/vapers/whatevers out there who are still a little ashamed of your hobby, whether it’s due to your parents raising you to feel bad, or the societal propaganda that puts cannabis in such a negative light, this one’s for you! It’s time to “come out” with your use of cannabis. Know why? Well, why not?

Just think about it, over half of the states in the U.S. have decriminalized cannabis in one way or another, such as decriminalization, legal medical use, and even recreational use. The prohibition of alcohol ended because gang violence was so terrible the risk of legal alcohol was even less than the destruction that these gangs caused. Now look at the cannabis movement; there’s cartels killing each other over who gets to ship their weed over the border. The gangs might not be so prevalent in the states, but they’re just as terrible if not worse. In Colorado, the first state to legalize marijuana, crime has decreased 15%, and over 15 million dollars of tax money from legal cannabis has gone toward schools, not to mention the increase in employment, and the additional $72 million from the industry.

Cannabis has been found to decrease the size of serious cancerous tumors, as well as assist with naseau, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, PTSD, and more. But hey, not everyone has a medical problem, and just likes to smoke some weed. There’s nothing wrong with that! On most college campuses the second most used drug behind alcohol is marijuana. Millions of people have tried it, and millions of people use it every day! With the movement gaining so much ground so quickly, society has no choice but to step back and let the storm we bring take its course until full legalization!

The point is, you may not be in the position to stand at the podium and speak to thousands on behalf for the movement, but you can kill the stigma! Prove to the doubters that someone who smokes cannabis isn’t lazy, stupid, and ill-ambitioned. Do your best at your job, whether it’s serving ice cream or being someone’s lawyer! Get good grades if you’re in school, and prove to the kids who have been taught wrong by their parents that weed won’t make them stupid and devil-like. Just be who you are, and show everyone that cannabis does not do to us what to the mass media once portrayed, back in the ’30s.

One day soon cannabis will be just as available as alcohol, and those who decide to use the safer choice will not be shunned, shamed, and arrested for trying to relax, have a good time, heal an ailment, help with a pain, or even save a life. It starts with you (my finger is pointing at you right now), yes you (I’m imaganing you going, “Who…meeee?? no way…”)! Prove the haters wrong! Be Awesome! Be a Stoner! Or don’t if you don’t like that label! Just be cool as pickle, be you, and smoke more weed.

  1. I made an account JUST to comment on this article.

This is NOT a good article. There is a significant amount of hearsay throughout, and it touches on topics that have NOT been fully researched yet, making many of these assertions dangerous to throw around.

I’m all for complete legality of marijuana, honestly, but this is not the way to go about it. Marijuana has legitimately harmful side-effects involved with it that are easily brought about by users who smoke/vape/whatever irresponsibly, and rallying these kinds of people is NOT a good idea. Rallying of ANY kind is not a good idea. It doesn’t matter whether you agree with it or not, marijuana is still illegal in over half of America, and simply going “against” the “stigma” like this isn’t actually going to make it go away. What WILL make it go away is time and education. Don’t “prove” anything to ANYONE, just keep spreading proper, correct information. I mean shoot, progress is ALREADY being made. Why fix something that isn’t broken?
